Visual Fidelity of Image Based Rendering
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper focuses on factors which influence the fidelity, or realness, of images created by image based rendering (IBR) methods. First, we address the issue of large memory requirements of IBR techniques and we analyze necessary number of input images for a scene representation preserving visual fidelity of the output images. Then, we investigate optimal scaling producing output images that are close to perspective projection. We show that objects in different depths should be scaled differently. In case of different depths in a view of a scene, the perceptually dominant object should be scaled properly.

Time-constrained High-fidelity Rendering on Local Desktop Grids
Parallel computing has been frequently used for reducing the rendering time of high-fidelity images, since the generation of such images has a high computational cost. Numerous algorithms have been proposed for parallel rendering but they primarily focus on utilising shared memory machines or dedicated distributed clusters. A local desktop grid, composed of arbitrary computational resources con...
متن کاملSegmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering
Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...
متن کاملSelective Parallel Rendering for High-Fidelity Graphics
High-fidelity rendering of complex scenes is one of the primary goals of computer graphics. Unfortunately, highfidelity rendering is notoriously computationally expensive. In this paper we present a framework for high-fidelity rendering in reasonable time through our Rendering on Demand system. We bring together two of the main acceleration methods for rendering: selective rendering and paralle...
متن کاملParallel selective rendering of high-fidelity virtual environments
Physically-based computer graphics offers the potential of achieving high-fidelity virtual environments in which the propagation of light in real environments is accurately simulated. However, such global illumination computations for even simple scenes may take many seconds and even longer to render a single frame, currently precluding their use in any interactive virtual environment, which re...

The perception of a virtual environment depends on the user and the task the user is currently performing in that environment. Models of the human visual system can thus be exploited to significantly reduce computational time when rendering high fidelity images, without compromising the perceived visual quality. This paper considers how an image can be selectively rendered when a user is perfor...
